John Planes

Chief Executive Officer

As a third-generation owner of Planes Companies, John Planes has been part of the relocation industry since the 1960’s, working alongside his father as a child. Mr. Planes entered the family business full time after serving six years in the Air Force Reserves, and has been CEO of Planes Companies since 2003. Mr. Planes was President of the Cincinnati Van Operators Association, chaired the Finance Committee for a local Catholic high school, and for 20 years, Mr. Planes served on the Board of Directors at UniGroup, Inc. In 2011 Mr. Planes won the United Excellence/Gene Anderson Award at the UniGroup, Inc. Convention. Mr. Planes works out of the corporate office in Cincinnati. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, traveling with his wife, and attending sporting events.

John Sabatalo


John Sabatalo has been with Planes Companies since 1991, and has served as President since 2003. With more than 20 years of experience in the relocation industry, Mr. Sabatalo leads the Executive Team and currently serves on the Board of Directors at UniGroup, Inc. Prior to joining Planes Companies, Mr. Sabatalo’s career began in intercollegiate athletics as a graduate assistant/football coach for the University of Cincinnati. He was also Head Football Coach and Athletic Director for two prominent Cincinnati high schools. Mr. Sabatalo earned a Bachelor of Science, Education, at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and a Master’s, Education Administration, at the University of Cincinnati. Mr. Sabatalo lives with his wife, Lynn, and he has two sons, Brian and Stephen, both of whom are pursuing their own professional careers. Mr. Sabatalo enjoys golf, exercising, and is an avid sports fan.

Robert Faillo

Chief Business Officer

Robert Faillo has served as the Chief Business Officer (CBO) for Planes Companies since 2016. In this newly created executive position for the organization, Mr. Faillo is responsible for leading the legal, contractual, insurance, risk and operational analysis for all of the company's business lines. Formerly, he served as CFO for 12 years since joining Planes Companies in 2004. Mr. Faillo has 40 years of financial experience serving as a CFO at other companies prior to joining Planes, including 22 years at Midland Enterprises, a water transportation and shipyard company based out of Cincinnati where he served as President and CEO until the Company was sold. Additional work experience includes Federated Department Stores and Price Waterhouse (PWC). Mr. Faillo is a CPA in Ohio and has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting at Lewis University and a Master's in Business Administration at the University of Cincinnati. He resides in West Chester, Ohio and in his spare time enjoys spending time with his family, golfing and driving sports cars.

Jeff Ankenbauer

Senior Vice President

Jeff Ankenbauer serves as Senior Vice President and has over 20 years in the relocation industry. Mr. Ankenbauer is responsible for the day to day account management, contract negotiations, and client relations for Planes Companies. Mr. Ankenbauer has earned the Masters Club and Inner Circle Club awards from UniGroup, Inc. for the past 15 years. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University and is a Certified Relocation Professional (CRP). Mr. Ankenbauer lives with his wife and four children in West Chester, Ohio.

Stephen R. Sabatalo

Senior Vice President

Stephen R. Sabatalo, Senior Vice President has been with Planes since 1999. He brings a diverse leadership background having spent 16 years in Federal Law Enforcement prior to joining Planes. As a member of the Executive Team, he is accountable for the successful operations of all five of Planes’ locations. Mr. Sabatalo is a strong proponent of the company’s Proactive Quality Management Process, encouraging every employee to out-perform their personal best. In 2006, he was a graduating member of UniGroup, Inc.’s Next Generation Leadership Program in St. Louis, a program which focused on engaging the next generation of leaders in the relocation industry. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice at Westfield State College in Massachusetts. When Mr. Sabatalo is not working he enjoys family time, reading and physical conditioning. He is married with four children and lives in Liberty Township, Ohio.
